JOHN PARSONS - of the early ferry service to Millbrook. He started in 1885 ferrying workers to the Dockyard with the Red Funnel Line. Within a very short period of time the Saltash White Funnel Company started competing for this route. Rival skippers would nudge the opposition’s boats on to the mud during the ebbing tide leaving Steamers high and dry. Parsons won about 16 law suits for damages against the Saltash Company in the 1890’s.
